Consumer Credit Register

The OFT has a duty under the Consumer Credit Act 1974 to maintain a register of consumer credit licence holders.

The Consumer Credit Register includes details of:

  • applications for - and holders of - consumer credit licences, both current and past
  • applications to vary or renew those licences and changes to certain particulars notified to the OFT
  • the OFT’s decisions to refuse applications, revoke consumer credit licences or impose requirements
  • information relating to any appeal to the First Tier Tribunal (Consumer Credit) against any such decision
  • information on Validation Orders in respect of credit agreements made by unlicensed or incorrectly licensed traders.

For information on how to search the register, view the help page

Search the register.

Please note that search results are limited to 100 matches per search.

Please note. All standard credit licences issued before April 2008 were valid for a specific period. The Register shows the "Expiry" date for these licences. Where an application to renew is received in good time, the Act says that the licence will continue to be in force beyond its original expiry date. The Licence Status field indicates whether a licence has lapsed or whether a renewal application has been received and the licence remains current.

Group licences
Copies of current group licences issued by the OFT, details of any person excluded from the cover of a group licence and particulars of any other variations made to these licences can be found on our website at http://www.oft.gov.uk/OFTwork/credit-licensing/group-licences/

Some EEA ‘passported’ businesses are not required to be licensed by the OFT. The register does not hold details of these businesses. This information is held by the Financial Services Authority (FSA) on the FSA Firm Check Service on its website at www.fsa.gov.uk

You are able to search the Consumer Credit Bulletin for details of licensing actions on a week by week basis.

If information appears to be incorrect or omitted, or if you are in any doubt as to a person’s licensed status, you can contact the OFT by emailing enquiries@oft.gov.uk. Please note we will only make changes that are notified by the licence holder or an authorised representative.
